WalkthroughCH 08Chapter 8: The House of AshesFind a way to the Necromancer's Lair: You've been here before. Just ahead is the room where you stole the Shantiri Crystal from Arantir.
There are two Black Guards. Take them down and go through the portal.Find Arantir and discover his plans: Down the hall you'll find yourself on the upper floor of a massive room where you can see the stars above.
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic at IGN: walkthroughs, items, maps, video tips, and strategies.
There are three paths. One if you go around to the right, one if you go to the left, and one if you hop up on the wall dividing the two. They all lead the same way, down a lot of steps and into a large room with some Vampire Knights and Necromancers. The Knights are faster and stronger than your usual Black Guards so don't underestimate them. Charming the Necromancers is a good approach. Straight across will be a door that goes back whichever way you went. There are ghouls in the cells for you to release if you like, and another hall to continue onward. This is a long hall, with rooms of necromancers on either side along the way.
Follow it all the way down. It will take you to a large circular library. There are some Necromancers, a few wimpy Black Guards and more formidable Vampire Knights. Work your way all the way down to the bottom floor. This will take you to hallway that will bring you to a circular room where there's been a recent hanging. Up the stairs and on the other side you'll find a Necromancer and the Black Orb, which will unlock all of those locked doors with the circular sockets you've encountered.Go back through the library, straight across and use the Orb to unlock the door. Follow the hallway to the Necromancers' workshop.
One of the Necromancers in here has a Trap Door Key, and a Soulreaver Staff on the table. Off to the side of this are some cells with healthy looking people, but they're really zombies, so leave them. Find the grate near where you came in and climb down.Go straight from here, and use the key you just found on the door and pull the lever to open the way. Grab the Daggers of Frost and continue on and up the ladder. When you crawl up, go left and continue along. In a room off to the right you'll find some Plate Armor with a necromancer. Continue down the hall, up the stairs, and around the corner. It's Leanna!
Doesn't look like that will last long, though. They'll make her walk the plank. You can't save her here; The guards will be invincible until it's too late. Run up the stairs and you'll come to a big room with a whole lot of trouble.
Try to lure them into the hallway so they don't swarm you. Off to one side of the big room is a crank to open a portcullis. Go through, down the hall, and you'll find some unarmed guards and a big elevator. Get in and throw the switch to go down.
Down below you'll be able to see Arantir's journal all the way across. Go read it to complete your objective.Rescue Leanna (Optional): Follow the path around the pit until you find the web-lined passage leading down. At the bottom there's another elevator like the one you just took. It'll take you down into the pit. Unsurprisingly, this place is crawling with spiders, so equip a good fire-based weapon.
You'll soon come to your next conquest, the Giant Spider. It's not that that tough. Slash at its underbelly and abdomen, and block its strikes. Fireballs are great, too. When you've finished it off it will stand on its hind legs and unleash a really nasty attack with the last of its life, so run away when it rears up. Nearby you'll find a ledge to climb that will lead to Leanna. Free her with the use function for a couple skill points.
Or kill her and make Xana's day.Escape through the portal: If you didn't kill her, follow her out. It's the same way you came in. You'll have a little chat about your new state. When you get back to the path around the pit, find the gate that leads upstairs and throw the switch to open it. This will lead to the lower area of that giant room near where we entered.
Go down the left or right side hallway and fight them in here rather than in the open, again. There's a cell you can unlock with the Black Orb, and a door on the far side to move on.Down the hall there's a door that you can unlock with the orb which leads to another elevator.
Before you climb in, flip the switch to lower the platform, then climb on and flip it again. At the top unlock the door and go out. To the right you'll see the portal. Now that you know the magic word it should open right up.Escape to Stonehelm through the sewers: Go out the way you did the last time you escaped from here, only this time, go the other way when you get in the water. It's as simple as that.
